Retirement Cam
Ely, United States

The Retired Pack originated in 2002, for the aging 1993 litter including MacKenzie, Lakota and Lucas. Now it's time for the next generation of retirees. Malik and Shadow, arctic subspecies of the gray wolf, were born May 8, 2000. Malik was the lowest ranking male in the Exhibit Pack. He was retired in September 2009, after aggression from Grizzer, the second ranking male, became too intense for Malik's physical safety. Shadow was retired in June, 2010, as he began show to signs of aging that resulted in testing from the younger wolves. The camera is focused on the den site, the main feature in the retirement enclosure. You may see Malik or Shadow actively running along the fence line, responding to the activities of the Exhibit Pack. The packs still communicate through howling and have a small area of fence where they can see each other, but not have direct contact. Picture size: 640x480.

Pond Cam
Ely, United States
Local time: 23:52

This is the view of the pond, a cooling place in summer and a place to drag their weekly meal in the winter time. During the summer, the wolves are more likely to be swimming in the pond early in the morning or later in the evening, escaping the heat of summer. The back view of the camera encompasses the hillside which will be the location of their second den site, scheduled for construction in the fall of 2008. Picture size: 640x480.

Greeting Rock Cam
Ely, United States
Local time: 23:52

This is a favorite resting spot for wolves during the summer and winter months. Wolves adapt their activity levels based on weather conditions, so viewing of this camera during the summer months is best prior early in the morning or later in the evening. During winter, they may lay upon these rocks during the middle of the day to gain radiant heat from the sun. These rocks are also known as the "greeting rocks" by wolf care staff. Picture size: 640x480.

Slate Den Cam
Ely, United States
Local time: 23:52

The new slate den is the highest vantage point in the pen and has become a favorite climbing area for the pack. The camera also reveals the edge of the wood line where the pack frequently rests on the hillside to gain shade in the summer, and southern exposure in winter. The trail leading to this area is very active, increasing the potential for viewing opportunities. Picture size: 640x480.
